According to the minutes of the Ohio Methodist Episcopal Conference of 1841, a delegation of citizens from Delaware came to Conference with a proposal. The delegation offered the Mansion House/Sulphur Spring property as a possible seat for a Methodist literary institution. The citizens of Delaware had collected enough subscriptions to purchase the property and agreed to do so if the Methodist Episcopal Conferences would open a college there. The proposal was referred to the Conference Committee on Education. The following preachers were added to the Committee on Education -- Rev. Jacob Young, Rev. William P. Strickland, Rev. Joseph Carper, Rev. George Crum, Rev. John Weakley, Rev. John Fitch, and Rev. William Young. |
