Description: Description: Photo of Bancroft House, no date. Building: Bancroft House, 1834 Designer/Architect: Ashley Bancroft and Joseph Evans, mason History: Ashley Bancroft was an active abolitionist and the first meeting of the Ohio State Anti-Slavery Society was held in his home. The meeting led to the "Granville Riot" of 1836. The house was also a station on the Underground Railroad and early childhood home of Hubert Howe Bancroft, Ashley's son and renowned Pacific Coast historian. The home was part of the Deeds Purchase of 1917. Building Style: Built with local stone. Current Use: It is now used to house upper class students.
